What kind of material is used to go around the outside edge of a mooring cover with snaps?

I need to replace my bow cover and am going to do my own snaps, but I need to reinforce the edges. What is best for this? Guessing a 1 1/2" to 2" nylon strap would work ok, but is there something thinner or better?

Hi Greg,
Nylon webbing isn’t very stable. Your problem will be shrinkage. Polyester although a better choice in webbing still will shrink and Polypropylene, well you saw what happened there, it disintegrated.

How I do the facing is with the same boat cover material I make the cover out of, then before I bind the edge with binding, I insert some pvc vinyl laminate such as tuff stuff in between and that gives 3 layers. You could also just make your facings out of tuff stuff since the reinforcement is on the inside of the cover and call it day. Put your snaps in and you will be good to go.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your project.
