I have a Sun Tracker bimini boot and the damaged zipper is 48" long. Can I cut a 60" size #8 zipper down to 48" or do you sell 48" zippers ?
Hi Ron,
Perfect question for this forum.
You can cut down any marine zipper. In fact this is what we do here even in a professional capacity. It's expensive to stock every single size zipper and even if you did you would still have to cut them down.
How this is done, is by laying the new zipper onto the old and making sure you have the same number of teeth.
Next you cut it off with a sharp pair of scissors. Lightly melt the tape with a soldering iron or lighter.
Next you will need a zipper stop of some type. We sell a stainless steel crimp on zipper stops. They are designed for the bigger tooth of a #10 zipper, but will also work on a #8 tooth.
Once you have sewn in your new zipper, you make sure your zipper slider is in place on the side of the zipper that has the box on it.
Then crimp the stainless steel zipper stop onto the last tooth on the slider side to keep it from coming off. The other side of the zipper doesn't need one, unless it just pleases you to put it there.
Easy as can be. Hope this helps answer your question completely.
Lastly, I sell 60" zippers , there is such a small price difference between 48" and 60".
