My tiedown buckle straps have pulled apart from the hem seam on my canopy cover. Is there a way to have these resewn back on? And who and where can I have this done? Thanks, Larry west
Hi Larry,
Sure, you can have your boat cover tie down straps sewn back on at any boat, auto trim or furniture upholstery shop.
Warning, although auto trim and furniture shops will have the right kind of sewing machine to handle the job, you also need the right kind of thread.
You should use bonded polyester UV 138 thread. You can also use the lighter weight V92 , but 138 is preferable. If they don’t have it, then bring it with the cover when you bring it in, you can buy it from me or many other places on the web. Even if they have it, you want to make sure it is not forgotten about when it actually goes up under the sewing machine on sewing day. It will be tempting to use the thread they already have on the sewing machines.
Boat upholstery shops will already be using that type of thread. The others will most likely being using Nylon thread which is not appropriate for boat covers.
You can also use lifetime PTFE Thread.
Thanks for the great question.
